Chill

Ghostpoet – Cash And Carry Me Home

Next week is the Mercury Awards and I’m hoping Ghostpoet gets the recognition he deserves with The Mercury Prize 2011. Here is his single Cash And Carry Me Home. It is pure chill and just for a bonus the lyrics are amazing.

“My hand grip whiskey like a newborn child,
Last night I must admit it got quite wild now,
Morning’s approached and I wrestle with a headache,
That was spawned in hell by the devil himself.”

“Now it’s not quite clear,
But I wonder what shenanigans brought me here,
While I’m cryin’ out loud and I’m feeling quite sorry for myself,
I need to check my health,
Cause I have much to know myself-self self self self.”

Ghostpoet – Liiines

Ghotspoet, London-born Obaro Ejimiwe, has erupted on to the scene with his debut album Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jamand is Mercury nominated for a reason. The album was written whilst Obaro was at university in Coventry and released on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings in February 2011. It includes the singles ‘Cash and Carry Me Home’, ‘Survive It’ and ‘Liiines‘.

“I keep on writing, writing
But them folk aint biting, biting
Maybe the bait aint juicy enough
So I’m switching, chucking spice in”

DRC Music – Hallo (Featurng Tout Puissant Mukalo and Nelly Liyemge)

DRC Music is a collective of producers lead by Damon Albarn. They recently visited the Democratic Republic of Congo to produce a new album for Oxfam. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Dan The Automator, Jneiro Jarel, Richard Russell, Actress, Marc Antoine, Alwest, Rodaidh McDonald and Kwes all made the trip with the plan – to make an album in 7 days.

Wracked by years of conflict, the DRC is home to one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, and proceeds from the album will go to helping Oxfam’s work, helping thousands of the DRC’s poorest people.

Now I’m not saying you should listen to or buy this music just because it is for charity. Not at all. You should listen to and buy this music because it is, simply put, brilliant. Enjoy.

Ben Howard – Keep Your Head Up

Sitting on a bus at 4am this morning, headphones on, listening to my shuffle, I was beginning to wonder if I could be bothered anymore, at which point this started playing. Immediately my problems seemed to dissolve and every task seemed achievable. Cheers Ben, it’s a shame my shuffle doesn’t play videos!

Little Dragon – Ritual Union (Tensnake Remix)

A brilliant chill out tune here featuring some amazing vocals and an awesome beat. Be careful, this tune is highly addictive.

“Love’s sinking in the sand,

Pedals falling on demand,

My feet are running like the wind,

I’m sorry, boy that we sinned.”
