Angel Haze-New York

26 Sep

With the likes of Nicki Minaj and Azealia Banks enjoying huge success female rappers are becoming a regular feature in the charts. However they tend to lean more towards dance music than tradition hip-hop and I’m craving a straight up female rapper. I find most of the tracks on Pink Friday quite irritating. I don’t deny Nicki’s vocal ability at all. To stand out amongst the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye West on Kanye’s Monster would say a lot but to go and own the track is insane!

Angel Haze said herself “I will say to anyone’s face I am the best out there right now”… “I put everyone in my school on to Nicki Minaj before she blew up. I was obsessed with her and I was like, ‘If she’s the best female rapper then I’ve got to be better than her”…” There’s no one out there right now who can beat me.” She just seems to have targeting a section in the market who are satisfied by a generic pop/house combination and lazy lyrics.

Azealia Banks on the other hand I like a lot, 212 is just brilliant and deserved all it’s success, but she has announced that she wants to move away from Hip-Hop and start producing more dance music. Here’s where Angel Haze comes in. Although New York is set on top of an upbeat handclap I can’t imagine it being played down my local Ivory Lounge receiving a great reception (no offence to Ivory Lounge). And this pleases me. I know people think Nicki Minaj is nasty but Angel Haze is just pure filth. Like she says in Werkin’ Girls – “I am multi facity bitch I do a tone of shit, like I’m diarrhea or whatever sitting under it”. If Angel Haze continues to produce music like this I can see her becoming a a favourite of mine.

Mystro – 2011 Uk Rap Up

11 Jan

“They claimed mindless thugs organised all the crimes,

But how come somebody mindless be organised?

And blaiming kids for the word spreading’s easy,

But really who can spread news speedier than the media?”

For everyone in the UK, here’s a sysinct summary of 2011. Touching upon a range of subjects from rioting to reality TV and pays respect to rising stars in the industry and legends who passed away. In seven minutes Mystro lives up to his name with insightful reflection on the years events and points out one of the most glaring oxymorons within the years news which was a constant irritation during the development of the summer riots.

Shady Records 2.0 Boys 2011- Cypher (Uncut)

14 Oct

Fresh from the BET Awards this is the explicit version of The Shady Records 2.0 Boys 2011 Cypher featuring Joell Ortiz, Crooked I, Royce Da 5’9, Yelawolf, Joe Budden and Eminem. From the looks of it these are some exciting times for Shady Records. Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf are impressing with everything they feature on. With his collaborative album with Shady, Bad Meets Evil – Hell The Sequel, Royce Da 5’9 reminded the world just how talented he is. The contrast of styles in this video goes a long way to summarise the depth and breadth of talent residing under the roof at Shady Records. And not forgetting Slim Shady himself, Eminem, who once again is absolutely stunning. His lyrical genius and the speed and clarity in which he communicates his words is unlike any rapper out there. When I hear him rap like this I can’t help but think we re listening to a genius at work. Also, one last thing. Kudos to DJ Premier for providing “Tried By 12”, that beat is heavy.

Charlie Snacks – Hustle Hard

25 Sep

New track from Charlie Snacks. Using the same sample that Jay-Z and Kanye West used for H.A.M, Rick Ross – MC Hammer, he has produced a fresh track with some great lyrics which are bound to make you laugh but also stop and think.

Tron! – Keeping The Blade Under Your Pillow

21 Sep

Since first discovering the Tron! & DVD mix-tape my headphones have been blasting out their up-beat summer vibes. This new track from Tron! however is much more sinister but similar to the first time I saw Silence Of The Lambs I am revelling in the darkness. “Adventure Time” was full of youthful wonderment and excitement; unicorns, cartoons and trips to the moon. Well it seems Tron! has fallen out of the tree house and wandered down the wrong alley because he now finds himself with demons in his sleep…

Future – Ballin’

21 Sep

Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads… I’m new to Future but judging by my first encounter I think I may become a fan. This track is awesome. The verses are great and that hook is catchier than chlamydia. I just wish I could hop in to a De-Lorean and find out what the future has in store. I guess I’ll have to wait and see!

Yonas – Pumped Up Kicks (Remix)

18 Sep

Yonas has delivered a brilliant remix of  Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the people. He has preserved the infectious summer vibe of the track but added his own unique sound. Combining a great beat with an honesty in his lyrics he has produced something truly enchanting. In an endless night sky of up & coming stars, Yonas shines with a sparkling intensity that makes you take notice.
