Adele – Someone Like You – Calvin Santana Cover

26 Sep

Calvin Santana, a music graduate from Oxford Brookes University, offers up a selection of good quality covers. Too often people try to cover a track and fail. Calvin is not an example of this. He pays tribute to the original while offering his own spin. Check out his other tracks on soundcloud.

Jack Peñate – No One Lied

31 Jan

Here’s a beautiful track from Jack Penate. A real contrast to the upbeat hits “Torn On The Platform” and “Second Minute Or Hour“, his latest work is more peaceful and captivating. I really enjoy the simplicity in this music; great lyrics, sung brilliantly.

“I’m so happy, think I could cry,
Then the moment is lost to the sky.
In the silence something is heard,
Brings us back down crashing to earth”

Allio – Down The Rabbit Hole Mix

7 Sep

If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary-wise; what it is it wouldn’t be, and what it wouldn’t be, it would. With this in mind I bring you a fresh new mix from Allio, a talented deejay I met while at University. He tends to switch it up, utilising a range of genres from peaceful chill-out tracks to in your face house and hip-hop, with a cheeky bit of dubstep thrown in for good measure. His latest mix is a perfect example of this. In his words, Down The Rabbit Hole is a mix of tracks; some old, some new, some chilled, some hard but ultimately all class. Featuring tunes such as “Night Air – Jamie Woon (Ramadanman remix)”, “Ni**as in Paris – Jay Z and Kanye West” and “Pictures – Benjamin Leftwitch Francis (GZUS remix)” you know you’re in for a treat. If your ear drums are tingling after playing this and are hungry for more, why not serve them up a portion of “Ruckus In The Library”, listening to it back in May was a regular relief from revising for finals!

  1. Night Air – Jamie Woon (Ramadanman remix)
  2. Wut – Girl Unit (Claude Von Stroke Undressed remix)
  3. Dushi – Crookers (Slap the bass remix)
  4. Homeless – Style Of Eye & Slagsmålsklubben
  5. Home Zone – Digitalism (Proxy remix)
  6. Get the fuck out my house – Crookers
  7. Hangover – Buraka Som Sistema
  8. Spirals – LOL Boys
  9. Ni**as in Paris – Jay Z and Kanye West
  10. Blind Spot – Skanky
  11. Just Smile for me – Bondax
  12. Afterglow – Phaeleh
  13. Pictures – Benjamin Leftwitch Francis (GZUS remix)
  14. The A Team – Ed Sheeran (Koan Sound remix)

Ghostpoet – Liiines

Ghotspoet, London-born Obaro Ejimiwe, has erupted on to the scene with his debut album Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam and is Mercury nominated for a reason. The album was written whilst Obaro was at university in Coventry and released on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings in February 2011. It includes the singles ‘Cash and Carry Me Home’, ‘Survive It’ and ‘Liiines‘.

DRC Music – Hallo (Featuring Tout Puissant Mukalo and Nelly Liyemge)

1 Sep

DRC Music is a collective of producers lead by Damon Albarn. They recently visited the Democratic Republic of Congo to produce a new album for Oxfam. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Dan The Automator, Jneiro Jarel, Richard Russell, Actress, Marc Antoine, Alwest, Rodaidh McDonald and Kwes all made the trip with the plan – to make an album in 7 days.

Wracked by years of conflict, the DRC is home to one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, and proceeds from the album will go to helping Oxfam’s work, helping thousands of the DRC’s poorest people.

Now I’m not saying you should listen to or buy this music just because it is for charity. Not at all. You should listen to and buy this music because it is, simply put, brilliant. Enjoy.

Delilah – Go

31 Aug

New tune from Delilah featuring some brilliant vocals. I expect this track will lend itself very well to being remix so keep an eye out for those.

There are already several remixes of this track, mainly dubstep and drum and bass, so far my favorite is the  S.P.Y  remix so I recomend you check that out.

James Blake & Bon Iver – Fall Creek Boys Choir
